Women get probation in toddler pepper spray case

Two Aurora women recently pleaded guilty to reduced charges for their role in a fight at a Batavia apartment complex in June 2014 in which police said a toddler was hit with pepper spray. Christina A. Santiago, 24, and Shaumere L. Causey, 20, both of the 1600 block of Grove Street, pleaded guilty to misdemeanor battery last month and were sentenced to 18 months of probation, 100 hours of community service and nearly $1,500 in fines and fees, according to Kane County court records. Madigan spokesman: No state minimum wage hike this year

A new proposal to eventually raise the Illinois minimum wage to $11 doesn't appear to be going anywhere until at least next year. That means Chicago's minimum wage will climb while the state wage of $8.25 will remain in the suburbs, creating a gap between the two regions. Full story.

Officials say woman fabricated stabbing story

A 33-year-old woman said she was stabbed in the abdomen while jogging Nov. 29 on a trail in the Deer Grove East forest preserve near Palatine. But authorities now believe she lied about how she got the wound. Full story.

Car crashes into Arlington Heights home

A car that was struck by another vehicle Tuesday afternoon wound up crashing into an Arlington Heights home, police said. No one was home at the time of the accident on the 1000 block of South Belmont Avenue. Full story.

DuPage forest preserve hires former chief judge

Former DuPage County Chief Judge John T. Elsner says he retired from the bench for the chance to represent the DuPage County Forest Preserve District. On Tuesday, forest preserve commissioners unanimously approved the appointment of Elsner as the head counsel for the district. Elsner, who until this week served as chief judge of the 18th Judicial Circuit, was nominated by forest preserve commission President Joe Cantore. Full story.
