3 Milwaukee firefighters hurt while battling apartment fire

MILWAUKEE - Three firefighters were taken to the hospital for injuries they suffered while fighting a fire at an apartment building in Milwaukee.

Authorities say the firefighters went into the eight-unit building Tuesday night following reports of people trapped on the second floor, but found no one. Battalion chief Brian Smith says the firefighters became trapped by fire and had to jump from a second-story window. Smith says they suffered burns and lacerations.

Officials say the apartment building is a total loss. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
