Buffalo Grove Bills Lightweight team wins National Championship

The Buffalo Grove Bills Lightweight football team won a National Championship at the National Youth Football Championship Tournament in Daytona Beach, Florida, over Thanksgiving weekend. The team, led by head coach Phil Wax, completed an undefeated season with a 13-0 record. The Bills also outscored opponents 455-20 over the 13 games.

The Buffalo Grove Bills Lightweights won The Chicagoland Youth Football League 2014 Super Bowl Championship and then went down to Daytona Beach to compete in the 2014 National Youth Football Championship Tournament.

In the semifinal game against the Delray Beach, Flordia, Rocks, the Bills won 42-0. JM Ettienne had 3 touchdown runs, while Cole Okmin had a 22-yard touchdown run and a 42-yard touchdown pass to Johnny Kull. Elijah Black added to the scoring with a 64-yard touchdown run.

In the finals, the Bills defeated the Orland Park IL Pioneers 24-0. Cole Okmin had touchdown passes of 45 yards and 20 to Sam Farber. JM Ettienne scored on a 25-yard touchdown run to complete the undefeated season and capture the National Championship.

Saturday was a great day in the Wax household. After Phil led the Bills to 2014 National Youth Football Championship, his son Lucas won the Illinois State 8A Football Championship with the Stevenson Patriots.
