CLC theater department holds auditions for 'The Miser'

Auditions for the Molière's classic comedy "The Miser" will be by the College of Lake County theater department at 6:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 8 and 9, in the Studio Theatre of the James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts on the Grayslake campus, 19351 W. Washington St.

Performances will take place at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 27 and 28 and March 5-7; 2 p.m. March 1; and 10 a.m. March 6. The play will be directed by Scott Mullins, CLC theater department adjunct faculty member.

For auditions, wear loose-fitting, comfortable clothing that will not restrict your movement. All actors should bring a 60- to 90-second memorized comic monologue or humorous poem that shows their energy, physicality and personality. The script is available for in-library reading from the Circulation Desk at the CLC Grayslake library.

Actors need only attend the Monday or Tuesday audition, not both. Bring a headshot/acting resume if you have one.

Callbacks will be from 6:30-10 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 11. Rehearsals will start Monday, Jan. 12, and will be held Monday through Thursday and Sunday afternoons until technical rehearsals begin Feb. 21.

The comedy centers on Harpagon, who loves nothing as much as money and status, not even his own children. When his son falls in love with the beautiful but penniless Mariane and his daughter promises to wed a young man of unknown parentage, drastic measures must be taken.

Meanwhile, scheming servants and assorted hustlers plot to steal Harpagon's incredible fortune, which is buried in the backyard.
