Downtown's merry and bright in Grayslake

Santa Claus made an early visit to Grayslake on Friday night for the lighting of the village's Christmas tree in the downtown area.

Visitors also enjoyed sleigh rides, shopping and a holiday market at the Grayslake Historical Society and Museum.

"I'm jazzed," said Dave Oberg, executive director of the Grayslake Heritage Museum.

"It's a great event, the kind of event that brings communities together. You gotta love being here."

Holiday events also were held Friday in Antioch, Fox Lake, Libertyville and Round Lake Beach.

More festivities are planned for today, including Christmas parades in Fox Lake and Lake Villa and tree-lighting ceremonies in Lake Zurich and Vernon Hills.
