Mundelein students attend FBLA leadership conference

Submitted by Mundelein High School District 120

For the third year in a row, Mundelein High School had the largest number of attendees at the Future Business Leaders of America Fall Leadership Conference, held in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Nov. 14-16. Mundelein had 155 registered members.

The students attended workshops about leadership, technology, communications, business etiquette and many other topics.

"It was good for students to take a break from the classroom and hear from business professionals about what it is to be a leader in today's world," said FBLA adviser Chris Hoster. "Sometimes I think those things can be missed in a typical day at school."

The highlight of the conference for the students was the keynote speaker, Josh Shipp, from the television series "Teen Trouble." He inspired members to reach their potential by sharing his life experiences and humorous anecdotes.

The MHS chapter has seen steady growth during the past few years, with a current enrollment of more than 200 members. The broad appeal of the organization comes from the engaging conferences and multiple activities where students can participate, according to Hoster. FBLA members operate the Mustang Nation Spirit Store, complete volunteerism projects and take part in academic competitions in addition to attending up to three leadership conferences during the school year.
