Three senior Geneva school administrators will retire at the end of the academic year, the district announced.

A replacement already has been found for one of them.

Craig Collins, the assistant superintendent of human resources; Patty O'Neil, assistant superintendent of learning and teaching; and Elizabeth Janowiak, technology director, are leaving.

Collins has worked for the district for 29 years; O'Neil for nine; and Janowiak for 18.

Monday, the school board appointed Andrew Barrett as the next assistant superintendent of learning and teaching.

"Dr. Barrett proves daily that he is both knowledgeable and practical. His priority is building collaborative professional relationships. As a seasoned leader in our district, Dr. Barrett has proven to be student focused and a team worker with staff. Dr. Barrett has a record of working for continuous improvement in a manner that ties well with the various aspects of our Tradition of Excellence," Superintendent Kent Mutchler said in a prepared statement.

The district hired Barrett as principal of Mill Creek Elementary School in 2006. He was appointed director of learning and teaching in 2011.

In his new job, he will supervise of curriculum, instruction and student assessment.

Barrett has a doctorate in educational policy, organization and leadership from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign.
