Dining events: Lombard's Pita House turns 15

The Pita House Restaurant in Lombard recently celebrated its 15th anniversary and grand reopening with an updated look. Menu highlights include lunch specials, like the No. 1, a combination of shish kebab, kefta kebab, shawarma and falafel served with salad, rice pilaf and hot pita bread, offered from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday for $5.95.

Lucky beers
The Lucky Monk celebrates its fifth anniversary with a five-course beer dinner starting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3. Food courses include seared diver scallop, stuffed turkey, ham and pork cheddar meatballs, gnocchi and confessional gravy, coffee-rubbed flank steak, and green tea-infused pot au crème and candied ginger-honey streusel. Beer pairings include Cardinal Sin, Grale, Barrel-aged Confessional, Solitude Stout and Jubilation Ale. $55 per person, plus tax and gratuity.

The Shanty's new menu items
The Shanty, featured on "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives," recently expanded its menu with 13 new dishes and 11 new sauces. Try a 12-ounce bone-in filet mignon topped with imported French Brie over a red wine reduction sauce or the new DNA-tested Chilean sea bass with walnut pesto over a purple cauliflower purée and local tomato jam.
