Oakbrook Terrace's Remedy Pub dispenses beer, burgers

New owners took over Opa! Estiatorio's space in August, transforming the Greek restaurant into a lounge focused on craft beer and quality pub food. With live music and space for private parties, the spot, located on Summit Avenue in Oakbrook Terrace, has proved popular with groups of all ages.

Motif: The bar area features high-top tables, plenty of TVs tuned to sports and a chalkboard showing off the current beer and cider list. The dining room has a display case for bottles of wine, whiskey and champagne and half booths sit against the brick walls. It also has its own chalkboard publicizing the night's food specials. Winter's arrival has made the fireplace by the stage a popular place to sit. A backroom provides space for big group dinners, and there's a banquet room upstairs.

Food: Burgers are the most popular pick on the menu, with plenty of varieties centering on a patty of Angus beef, black beans or turkey. You'll also find heartier fare like potpie and Guinness-baked meatloaf, along with some novel appetizers including smashed fried heirloom tomatoes and togarashi tuna with wasabi cream.

Liquid consumption: Remedy Pub specializes in craft beer and cider, with 12 beers on tap and 15 to 20 more in bottles. The selection changes monthly and focuses on Midwestern producers including Two Brothers Brewing Company, Church Street Brewing Company and Founders Brewing Co. The bar also offers an extensive whiskey menu.

Crowd: Remedy draws in customers in their 20s through 70s, with an older dinner crowd and the ages getting younger as the night gets later. You're more likely to find couples in their 20s and 30s in the bar area, while older diners prefer the dining room.

Music: The bar hosts live music Friday and Saturday, bringing in an eclectic mix of acoustic acts, cover bands playing '80s, '90s and current pop hits, and singers crooning Frank Sinatra and The Four Seasons in front of the dining room fireplace while seniors sway on the dance floor.

Service: We were quickly greeted when we sat down at the bar, and our attentive server made sure we never waited for a refill.

Parking: The free lot offers plenty of spots.

Overall: Remedy Pub is a laid-back place for dinner, drinks and dancing.
