Children can be the best teachers

I am eager to make a difference in the world and yearn to share my talents and love for everyone through my actions. When I realized changing the world was a hefty goal, I started in my own community by volunteering at Glen Ellyn Children's Resource Center, an after-school tutoring program for children from low-income families.

GECRC is where I met Lwe Wah, a young girl from Thailand. When I began volunteering, I expected to meet a few children and help them become better students. Every day that I leave tutoring, I realize Lwe Wah and the children at GECRC have made a tremendous impact on my life. Lwe Wah unknowingly taught me that genuine happiness comes from within. I find it intriguing that I am the "teacher," because I have learned far more than I ever taught.
