Trembley looks forward to serving Palatine for six months

Palatine Mayor Jim Schwantz's nomination to fill in for a departing District 3 village councilman says he hadn't intended to ever run for political office but would be happy to serve for six months.

"It wasn't something that I had actually thought about or entertained," said Matt Trembley, who has owned a State Farm insurance office in town since 1985. "But when (Schwantz) approached me about it I thought it would be great to give back in that limited time window."

With the consent of the Palatine village council, Trembley would serve the final six months of departing councilman Jim Clegg's 4-year term. Clegg resigned last week because he and his wife are moving out of town.

Schwantz said it was important to him to have someone in Clegg's seat for six months who wasn't going to be seeking the full term in the April election, and Trembley fit that description.

Trembley said he never considered running for village council because he is so busy with his business and family, but he is looking forward to serving with the other council members for the benefit of Palatine on a short-term basis.

Trembley has some experience with the village council. He said he worked with former District 3 councilman Dan Varroney when the northeast Palatine neighborhood where he and his family have lived since 1993 was annexed into the village.

One candidate, Doug Myslinski, has filed to run for the District 3 seat in April.
