Thanksgiving Day race set in Batavia

As many as 2,500 runners are expected to make room for pumpkin pie by taking part Thursday morning in the 18th annual The Fox and The Turkey races in Batavia.

The races are sponsored by the Fox River Trail Runners club.

Registration was being taken through 8 p.m. Wednesday at The Holmstad, 700 W. Fabyan Pkwy. Registration Thursday morning is at 6:30 a.m. at the Peg Bond Center on the Riverwalk, at Island Avenue and Houston Street. The fee is $15 and a food donation for the youth mile, $35 and a food donation for the 4-miler.

The youth mile is the first race, starting at 7:30 a.m. The all-ages 4-mile run starts at 8:15 a.m.

The runners will run on Houston, Van Nortwick Avenue, Maple Lane, Cypress Lane, Britta Lane, Robin Lane, Winnebago Trail, North Avenue and Republic Road. Route 31 will be closed intermittently at Houston to allow runners to cross.

Proceeds from registration fees are being donated to the Batavia Interfaith Food Pantry.
