Streamwood students celebrate Thanksgiving their way

A Thanksgiving meal of turkey sandwiches, pudding and Kool-Aid was the highlight and reward Tuesday for special-needs students at Ridge Circle Elementary School in Streamwood

The first-, second- and third-graders planned the Thanksgiving event and sent out invitations to parents and teachers. They made table decorations and wrote down what they were thankful for, as part of their functional skills class.

"I like to do these things so people can see what they're capable of," teacher Ellie Alvarado said of the 10 students as they lined up for sandwiches.

"There they are, learning to stand in line, too."
