Open house for new veterans' location:

Veterans, friends and families, and the general public are invited to an open house by Lake-McHenry Veterans and Family Services program from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10. The free event will be at the program's new location, 100 S. Atkinson Road, Suite #203 in Grayslake. The program, which is managed by the Lake County Health Department, was located in Lake Villa. Veterans can learn about numerous services and resources available on a local level, such as weekly coffee and conversation through the "Vets and a Cup of Joe" series. The program also offers free screenings, support groups, crisis intervention, links to emergency housing, family and group therapy and other services. Currently, approximately 40,000 veterans reside in Lake County, and of those veterans, 20 percent to 25 percent struggle with mental health issues. Call (847) 377-8386 or visit: http://lmvfs.org/.
