Other groups offering a free Thanksgiving dinner
Here's a look at a few of the other groups serving a free meal on this special day:
Arlington Heights: 105 sailors from Great Lakes Naval Academy in North Chicago will visit American Legion Post 208, 121 N. Douglas Ave., for dinner, phone calls, video games, bowling at Beverly Lanes, movies at Star Cinema and coffee at Starbucks. People are invited to stop by and say “Hi” to the sailors, who should arrive around 10 a.m.
Batavia:
• Aliano's Ristorante will serve a free plated Thanksgiving meal to senior citizens between 11 a.m. and noon. There will be turkey, prime rib and ham. • Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1197 Men's Auxiliary will host its annual dinner from noon to 3 p.m. in The Hangar, 625 S. River St., Route 25. The public is invited; donations are appreciated, but not necessary. Large groups should call (630) 879-9630. Deliveries available for shut-ins.
• United Methodist Church of Batavia will serve a meal from 1 to 3 p.m. in the fellowship hall, 8 N. Batavia Ave. The public is invited; volunteers are welcome. Call (630) 879-7060 or visit www.bataviaumc.com.
Elgin: A dinner will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 216 E. Highland Ave. The public is invited. Donations of turkeys and desserts are welcome. Palatine: All Saints Lutheran Church, 630 S. Quentin Road, will serve its fifth dinner from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. to about 200 men, women, children, senior citizens, singles and homeless in the church's Gathering Space.
