T-Mobile dangling free 7-Inch tablet in pre-Black Friday deal

T-Mobile US Inc., the fourth-largest U.S. wireless carrier, is offering a free 7-inch Android tablet to existing customers as part of an early Black Friday sales promotion.

Existing T-Mobile customers can get a new tablet free with a data service plan that starts at $10 a month for 1 gigabyte of data. The free tablet is the Alcatel OneTouch Pop 7 tablet, which has a retail price of $168 at T-Mobile. That compares with $529.92 that T-Mobile charges for the Apple iPad Mini at full retail price.

Carriers have relied on strong tablet sales to boost subscriber growth and help increase data service charges as phone sales slow. While T-Mobile's losses widened in the third quarter, the carrier raised its new monthly subscriber forecast by about 1 million to as many as 4.7 million this year.

T-Mobile will offer the free tablet deal to new customers beginning Nov. 22. The free tablet for new customers requires a service plan that starts at $20 a month for 1 gigabyte of data.

Black Friday, this year on Nov. 28, is the name given to the day after Thanksgiving, traditionally one of the biggest shopping days of the year in the U.S.
