Driver injured after hitting utility pole in Streamwood

A man was taken to the hospital Saturday morning after his car struck a utility pole, knocking down power lines across Irving Park Road in Streamwood, authorities said.

Firefighters had to free the man from the damaged car, Streamwood Deputy Chief Marv Kramer said. Paramedics took the man, whose injuries were not considered life threatening, to St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates, Kramer said. The man was conscious.

Streamwood police shut down Irving Park Road near Madison Drive for about 30 minutes while ComEd crews repaired the downed power lines.

Police did not immediately respond to messages Saturday afternoon.
