Waukegan police searching for gunman

Waukegan police searched late Saturday for a gunman who fired at least one shot at officers responding to a reported armed robbery, authorities said.

The two Waukegan officers were not injured, Cmdr. Joe Florip said.

Police set up a perimeter after the man fled on foot in the area of Belvidere Road and Lincoln Avenue, Florip said. Authorities did not release his description.

Police believe the man targeted a person during an armed robbery reported about 7 p.m., Florip said. It was unclear whether anything was taken from the victim.

The manhunt involved officers from other Lake County departments and shut down roads between Washington Street to the north and Belvidere to the south. By 10:45 p.m., investigators were still searching for the suspect, police said.
