Holiday tree arrives in Mount Prospect

The tree that will light up downtown Mount Prospect this holiday season arrived outside village hall on Thursday.

Work crews from Homer Tree Care and the public works department hoisted the Colorado blue spruce into the air and installed it near the corner of Route 83 and Busse Avenue. The tree was donated by the Little family of Mount Prospect.

“It had gotten too big for our yard,” Ted Little said. “It's a beautiful tree, though, and donating it for this purpose seemed better than just letting it become waste.”

The tree stood about 45 feet tall, Little said, though less than that will be on display. It was “quite amazing” to see the tree installed outside village hall on Thursday, he added.

A formal tree-lighting ceremony will be held at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26, outside village hall. Also taking place that day will be the third annual Christkindlmarket, which runs from 4 to 7 p.m. in the village hall's Community Room, giving visitors a chance to get a jump on holiday shopping.
