Facebook page hacked, hate messages posted

Federal law enforcement agencies are investigating the hacking and placement of hate messages on the Facebook page of a University of Chicago student.

The Facebook page belongs to a student who was among several who complained about other students wearing racist costumes on Halloween. The students started a petition demanding the university address a "culture of racial intolerance."

WMAQ-Chicago reports one of the students targeted by the hate message was junior Vincente Perez. The message says none of Vincente's profiles are safe.

Perez says he believes the threat stems from Halloween night, when he saw students dressed as Mexican stereotypes. Photos later uploaded to a Facebook page showed people in the costumes in offensive poses.

The university said in a statement the threat directed at Vincente "violates our core values."
