Police: Medical issues cause Aurora man's death after crash

Aurora police said Friday the death of an 88-year-old man who was involved in a crash Thursday afternoon appears to be medically related.

Robert C. Walker of the 900 block of Walter Avenue in Aurora was driving about 4:15 p.m. Thursday when he apparently jumped a curb and struck a retaining wall at the southeast corner of East Benton Street and South Broadway Avenue after rolling east through the intersection against a red light.

Police said witnesses reported seeing Walker slumped over the driver's seat of his 2000 Honda Accord while it was rolling slowly through the intersection. The impact with the retaining wall caused the air bag to deploy, but only minor damage was caused to Walker's car. Police said he died Thursday night at an Aurora hospital, and they believe medical issues led to the crash.
