Lombard fire department to collect toys

The Lombard Fire Department is collecting baby supplies and toys for kids age 14 and younger from Dec. 1 to 14 at several locations.

The bins will be set up at village hall, Fire Station 1, Fire Station 2 and Schroeder's Ace Hardware. Students at District 44 schools are also collecting items.

Residents are asked to drop off new, unwrapped toys or baby supplies, such as formula and diapers. The items will benefit Teen Parent Connection, First Things First and the Lombard/Villa Park Food Pantry.

On Dec. 14, fire trucks will take part in a parade for a last-minute collection of toys, from Main Street and St. Charles Road to Glenbard East High School, starting at 10:30 a.m. Firefighters and volunteers will collect toys along the parade route on the west side of the street. Ideas for donations include educational toys, board games, toddler toys, dress-up costumes, sports equipment and books.

The toys will then be driven to Yorktown, where they will be unloaded from noon to 2 p.m. near Carson's as part of the "Ultimate Stuff the Sleigh" event with 103.5FM and 93.9FM.

Cash donations will also be accepted and may be dropped off at either fire station. For information, call firefighter paramedic Joshua Hays at (630) 620-5734.
