Who are the state's real big spenders?

If we are to believe a letter-writer from Lombard, and Democrat intellectuals in general, the editors were "bought" on the theory, "that Rauner's victory shows that with enough money you can buy yourself anything you want." Bruce Rauner's victory had nothing to do with Governor Pat Quinn's crippling taxes and abysmal employment rate in Illinois.

Consider this, Illinois government spending skyrocketed $17.1 billion between 2009 and 2013. Remember, one billion is one thousand times one million. The budget metastasized from $49 billion to $66 billion, increasing faster than inflation. This happened all under Democrat control.

I heard the claim in a Democrat ad, that Rauner spent $100 million to defeat Quinn. That is a paltry sum compared to the Illinois budget on which millions of Democrats depend. After all, big government is as much a special interest, if not more, that any mega-corporation. And corporations do not have the added advantage of gaining revenue at the point of a gun. They have to actually offer a service or product which people want.

Thank goodness that billionaires such as Rauner exist, who have the resources to take on an apparatus of vote-buying such as the state of Illinois.
