Lisa Rock stars in 'A Carpenters Christmas' at CLC
Back by popular demand, Lisa Rock and her six-piece band will perform "A Carpenters Christmas" at the College of Lake County at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9.
While The Carpenters are known for over a dozen chart-topping hits, they also won over their fans with their Christmas celebrations. Singer and playwright Lisa Rock and her band are keeping The Carpenters' holiday traditions alive and bringing their unforgettable Christmas songs to the stage. The show features "Merry Christmas Darling" and the jazzy "Santa Claus is Comin' to Town" and other spot-on renditions of the Carpenters' unforgettable Christmas tunes.
Lisa Rock, a Chicago-area cabaret singer and composer, has been performing to sold-out crowds for years. She's written more than 15 original concerts and cabarets. Rock's four-octave range allows her to sing the Carpenters' hits such as "We've Only Just Begun" and "Rainy Days and Mondays" in their original key, keeping the songs genuine and more recognizable for the audience.
"When she hits the lower range of her marvelous voice," critic Alan Bresloff said, "if you close your eyes, you can see Karen Carpenter's face."
The backup band includes the following Chicago-area musicians: Justin Boller (bass/guitar), Eric Engelson (drums), Amy Malouf (backup vocals/percussion), Ken McMullen (piano), Dave Orlicz (woodwinds/EWI/keyboards) and Micky York (backup vocals/keyboards/harp/drums).
Regular tickets cost $35/32/28; seniors, staff and alumni are $34/31/27; CLC students and teens are $15; and children are $12. A $2 JLC facility fee will be added per ticket at the time of purchase. Other fees may apply to Internet purchases. CLC student tickets are not available for online purchase. Teen and children's tickets must be purchased with adult priced tickets.
