Boys basketball: Scouting Grayslake North

GRAYSLAKE NORTH KNIGHTSCoach: Todd Grunloh (9th season)

Last year: 9-18 (7-5 FVC Fox)

Last year's tournament: Lost in regional quarterfinal to Palatine, 39-37.

Key players lost: None.

Key players returning: G Dom DiProva, sr., F Aidan Einloth, jr., G Bobby Krebs, jr., F Eli Atwater, sr., G Lucas Buckels, sr.

Newcomers: G Joe Geary, jr., G Jordan Keith, jr., F Lee Bowen, sr.

Outlook: What a difference a year makes. Last year at this time, Grayslake North was putting the final touches on a roster of mostly newbies. The Knights had lost eight players, including four starters, to graduation. Fast forward a year, and the situation is almost opposite. "Unlike last season, we return a great deal of varsity experience, most notably two Fox Valley all-conference selections in Dom DiProva and Aidan Einloth, who is a three-year varsity starter," Grayslake North coach Todd Grunloh said. Einloth averaged 13.7 points and 7 rebounds per game last season while DiProva added 11.3 points per game. "Overall, we do not have a lot of size, but we are very deep at the guard position, especially at point guard," said Grunloh, who also pointed out that starting guard Bobby Krebs (6 ppg) is back as well. "We will look to rely on that depth throughout the season and take advantage of our team quickness to create matchup problems." Juniors Joe Geary, Jordan Keith, a transfer from Grayslake Central, and Krebs are capable of taking over the point guard spot. Meanwhile, seniors Eli Atwater, Lucas Buckels and Lee Bowen all have varsity experience in the front court. Bowen transferred from Carmel, where he played a key role on a team that advanced to the sectional championship. "Coming off a strong summer, we are hoping to have a successful season," Grunloh said. "Although, we know that we will have our hands full with a tough schedule in a Fox Valley Conference that did not lose much to graduation."

Opener: Tuesday vs. Guerin Prep at Johnsburg
