Auction at Geneva church raises over $5,000 for local organizations

The Unitarian Universalist Society of Geneva raised more than $5,000 for local humanitarian organizations at its "Saturday Night Feverish" auction on Nov. 15.

More than 100 people packed the church's historic sanctuary to bid on a variety of items, including baskets of donated goods and services from local businesses and church members. Funds raised are being divided equally between Lazarus House, a shelter for the homeless and those at risk of homelessness in St. Charles, and Mutual Ground, a shelter for domestic abuse victims in Aurora.

Local businesses that donated items include Cocoa Bean, Graham's Chocolate, Forever Yogurt, Kimmer's Ice Cream, McNally's Irish Pub, Town House Books and ZaZa's Trattoria.

"It was wonderful to work with generous local merchants and a congregation that knows how to put the fun in fundraising," said church member and auction organizer Jean Pierce. "The money we raised will go a long way toward helping our neighbors in need."
