Deer Parth Art League exhibit features work by local artist

Artist Susan Anne Russell is featured at The Deer Path Art League holiday exhibit, "Deck the Walls." Running from November through January, this holiday show includes photography and paintings by Rob Kuehnle and Tina Leto.

The Deer Path Gallery, the oldest gallery in Lake Forest, is on the second floor of the historic Gorton Community Center, 400 E. Illinois Road, one block from the Lake Forest Library, which concurrently has a solo exhibit of Russell's work displaying more than 60 paintings.

Susan Russell was selected in 2013 for a solo show at the Adler Mansion. She was selected for the NY Biennale Art Show 2009, receiving international recognition. New York's Agora Gallery, located in the Chelsea District, accepted her paintings for representation.

She has exhibited in the prestigious South Huron Gallerie-MK, the River East Galleries and the Black Walnut Gallery in Chicago. Additionally, she was given a solo show at Oxala Fine Art Gallery in the Pilsen Gallery District. Her painting "Aphrodite" was printed in the Chicago Reader's Art section.

Russell paints many different genres, including landscapes, abstracts, nudes, portraits, still lifes and full-scale commissioned murals.

Russell has been an Art and Humanities professor since 2005 and has written a book titled "Exposing Yourself to the Performing Arts."

"I am an artist," Russell said. "I live, breathe and feel art everyday. Art is my inner world of dreams, fantasies and exploration. Art is everywhere. Being an artist is learning how to see, perceive, enlighten."

Susan claims that her work stems predominantly from dreams that are orchestrated and filtered through the vehicle of pigment, achieving perspectives with light and atmosphere.

"I consider art an evolving process and feel my art comes from an exterior muse that enters and inspires."
