Wheaton man charged with sending nude photos

A 48-year-old Wheaton man was ordered held on $125,000 bail Wednesday after authorities say he emailed nude photographs of himself to someone he thought was a 15-year-old Buffalo Grove girl, but who was actually an undercover officer.

Carl Zwanzig was charged with distribution of harmful material and grooming, class four felonies punishable by up to three years in prison. Probation is also an option.

Responding to an online ad, Zwanzig believed he was conversing with a teenage girl, said Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Elizabeth Brogan. From Sept. 16 to 21, he sent emails to the "girl" inquiring about her sexual experiences, Brogan said. He also repeatedly asked the "girl" to meet with him for sex and sent nude photographs, Brogan said.

Police arrested Zwanzig Tuesday. His background includes convictions for theft and criminal damage to property.

He next appears in court on Dec. 18.
