Woodview School in Grayslake sends candy to troops overseas

For the second consecutive year, a Woodview Elementary School teacher in Grayslake led an effort to collect candy for troops overseas.

Physical education instructor Steve Feldman helped to organize the collection of at least 700 pounds of sweets.

Last year, the youngster brought in roughly 425 pounds of candy they received from Halloween trick-or-treating. Feldman set a goal of 500 pounds for the recent collection, but went well beyond that amount.

First- and second-grade classes helped to separate the candy. Woodview teachers even used the candy for math lessons.

All of the candy was delivered to Great Lakes Naval Station near North Chicago and is expected to make its way to the troops overseas.

Woodview has about 400 students in kindergarten through fourth grade. Woodview is part of Grayslake Elementary District 46.
