COD only Illinois Community College District to grow FTES enrollment over past five years

Of the 39 community college districts in Illinois, College of DuPage was the only college district to grow Full Time Equivalent Student enrollment over the past five years.

Between fall 2010 and fall 2014, COD grew FTES enrollment by 956 or six percent. During that same period the state's 39 community college districts were down a total of 13.1 percent, according to a report released last week by the Illinois Community College Board.

"Given the economic climate we have dealt with for the past five years and the performance of our peers statewide, these accomplishments are all the more amazing," said COD President Dr. Robert L. Breuder. "Students are choosing to come to College of DuPage by the thousands for their education, both from within and outside the district. We are very proud of the work it took for us to make this a reality."

Between fall 2010 and fall 2014 (5-year change), College of DuPage also was one of only three community college districts that grew credit head count enrollment. From fall 2010 to fall 2014, College of DuPage grew by 2,754 credit heads or 10.3 percent. The other two community colleges that saw an increase were 480 credit heads or 4.6 percent, and 100 credit heads or 0.6 percent. During the same period the state (aggregate of all 39 community college districts) was down in head count by 11.1 percent.

Between fall 2013 and fall 2014 (1-year change), no other Illinois community college district added more head count than College of DuPage. From fall 2013 to fall 2014, College of DuPage increased by 849 credit heads or 3 percent. During the same period, the state (aggregate of all 39 community college districts) was down in credit head count by 4 percent.

Between fall 2013 and fall 2014 (1-year change), College of DuPage had the largest FTES growth of any Illinois community college district. From 2013FA - 2014FA, College of DuPage grew by 293 FTES or 1.8 percent. During the same period the state (aggregate of all 39 community college districts) was down 4.8 percent in FTES.

With a FTES enrollment of 16,858, COD is now the only single Illinois community college with a fall FTES enrollment over 10,000. COD's fall 2014 credit head count is 29,476. The next closest Illinois community college has a credit head count of 15,776. By comparison, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign has an undergraduate credit head count of approximately 33,000.

"This is tremendous validation of our vision statement that College of DuPage will be the primary college district residents choose for high quality education," President Breuder said.
