Illinois man gets 12 years for exploiting minors

SPRINGFIELD - A former central Illinois school bus driver has been sentenced to 12 years in federal prison for sexually exploiting minors.

The State Journal-Register reports 44-year-old James Owens of Owaneco was ordered Monday to remain on supervised release for 20 years after his imprisonment.

The former Taylorville school bus driver pleaded guilty in federal court in February to enticing individuals under the age in 18 to engage in sexual activity between 2012 and 2013. He has been in custody since his arrest in May 2013.

The case was investigated by the FBI, Illinois State Police and Christian County authorities as part of a nationwide initiative to limit child sexual exploitation.
