Suburban school districts honored at White House

Three suburban superintendents will be at the White House Wednesday to be recognized for helping transition their school districts to digital learning, officials said.

Barrington High School District 220, Elk Grove Township Elementary District 59 and Gurnee Elementary District 56 are among 100 districts being recognized by President Barack Obama and Education Department Secretary Arnie Duncan as "Future Ready". Superintendents Brian Harris, Art Fessler and John Hutton are expected to be in attendance representing their respective districts.

The superintendents summit is part of the president's ConnectED initiative, announced in June 2013, which has a goal of connecting 99 percent of students to broadband Internet within five years.
