St. Charles man charged with resisting police officer

A St. Charles man was charged Tuesday with resisting a police officer, authorities said.

James Roesner, 35, visited the St. Charles Police Department Tuesday to file a report and ask that officers check on a residence, according to a news release.

But "based on a long history," the officer who responded to the front desk for the report "felt that Roesner was using the police to harass the resident," according to the news release.

Roesner was told to leave, and he became argumentative. He "jabbed" his finger toward the officer.

The 35-year-old was escorted out of the vestibule, but he kept jabbing at the responding officer, "almost hitting him."

The officer then struggled with Roesner as he took him into custody. A records employee who noticed them struggling called for Tri-Com and an emergency broadcast was made for an officer in need of assistance.

Other officers from the building responded to the two and Roesner was handcuffed. No one was injured.

Roesner was charged with resisting a police officer, which is a Class A misdemeanor.

He is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 18.
