Reservations are filling up for Holiday Book Review

The annual Holiday Book Review benefiting Pioneer Center for Human Services is now accepting reservations. And with invitations sent out a little over a week ago, the lunch event is already two-thirds sold out.

"Year after year this event never ceases to amaze me. Last year, we had over 600 people supporting our afternoon and evening events. It was a spectacular way to kick off the holiday season," said Christin Kruse, chief development Officer for Pioneer Center.

The event, in its ninth year, will take place on Friday, Dec. 5, at D'Andrea Banquets in Crystal Lake. Based on last year's success, coordinators of the event are again offering two show time options, afternoon and evening. Both events include gift basket raffles, grand raffle, a used book "adoption" and entertainment.

The afternoon event features Barbara Rinella, renowned book dramatist, presenting "Finding the Dragon Lady: The Mystery of Vietnam's Madame Nhu," by Monique Brinson Demery. The evening dinner will feature Jenny Riddle as she presents "Audition: A Memoir," a glimpse into Barbara Walters' life.

For the afternoon event, doors open at 10:45 a.m. with a social hour and raffles, lunch will be served at 12:30 p.m. and the book review begins after lunch. The evening event begins at 6 p.m. with dinner served at 6:45 p.m. and the presentation starts immediately after. Tickets for both events are $50 each or you can purchase tables of 10 for $500.

The grand raffle offers the chance to win one of four prizes including a Samsung 48-inch LED Smart TV, an Apple iPad Air 16 GB, a $500 Derma Vita medispa gift certificate and a Raue Center for the Arts theater dinner package. Raffle tickets are only $10 each or six for $50. Winners do not need to be present and all proceeds benefit Pioneer Center for Human Services.
