Hailey courts all-conference success at Carthage

While her high school alma mater was enjoying a championship season in volleyball, Bria Hailey was doing the same in college this fall.

Hailey, a former Schaumburg Saxon, now plays middle blocker for Carthage College and she was named to the College Conference of Wisconsin and Illinois first team.

Schaumburg enjoyed championships in the Mid-Suburban West and the regional this fall under coach Jeanette Pancratz, who played a key role in Hailey's decision to attend Carthage.

Hailey helped the Lady Reds to a school record regular-season 35-3 record and league championship.

Carthage qualified for the NCAA tourney for the first time since 2011, the year that former Saxon Drewann Pancratz was the setter for Carthage.

Hailey's former Schaumburg teammate Sara Travis, a senior right side hitter for Millikin, made the CCIW third team.

Carthage coach Leanne Ulmer, a former Stevenson girls head coach, was named the CCIW coach of the year.

• North Central junior setter Laura Kluk (Palatine) was named to the second team All-CCIW. She led the team in assists for the third consecutive season, tallying 978 while ranking third in CCIW play, averaging 8.50 assists per set. She finished the season with 132 kills, while ranking second on the team in digs (314) and service aces (33).

It was Kluk's second all-conference honor, her first being in the 2012 season where she also won CCIW Freshman of the Year.

• Cornell sophomore outside hitter Diamond Boyd (Elk Grove) was named the Midwest Conference Volleyball "Offensive Performer of the Week' in the final week of the regular season.

Boyd's week was highlighted by a spectacular 29-kill performance in a four-set victory over rival Coe, champions of the Iowa Conference.

The 5-foot-10 Boyd posted a hefty .587 attack percentage - two errors on 46 swings - and tied Kristin Paczosa's 2007 school record for most kills in a match.

She more than doubled her previous-best kill output (14) against the Kohawks. For the week, Boyd hit .405 and totaled 57 kills (4.07 kills per set). Boyd also had 12 digs and 10 blocks (0.71 blocks per set).

Augustana exploded for 43 points in the final 20 minutes as the Vikings (5-5) celebrated Senior Day at Lindberg Stadium with a 59-6 win over Millikin.

The Vikings led 16-6 with less than five minutes remaining in the third quarter.

But an 18-yard touchdown run by Augustana junior quarterback Sam Frasco (Prospect) opened the floodgates as the Vikings found the end zone seven times over the last 19:19.

Frasco was named one of three College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin 'Football Players of the Week'

He totaled 340 yards in the game, rushing for 104 yards on 9 carries and 2 touchdowns runs (18 and 53 yards).

He also completed 13-of-19 passes for 236 yards and a 52-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter.

The 59 points were the most scored by Augustana since a 65-0 win over MacMurray in the 2007 season opener.

For the season, Frasco ended up 105-of-188 (55.9 percent) for 1,188 yards and 7 touchdowns. He was intercepted just three times and will enter his senior season with 130 consecutive pass attempts without throwing a pick.

University of Dubuque junior defender Kimberly Trinco (Conant) helped her team clinch a berth in the D3 NCAA tournament with a conference tournament victory over No. 2 Central College.

It was Dubuque's second Iowa Conference tournament title and first since 2009. It is the first time in school history the Spartans (16-4-1) have won both the regular season IIAC title and the IIAC tournament title.

•DePaul freshman Alexa Ben (Schaumburg), who was named the Big East Rookie of the Year earlier this month, assisted on the Blue Demons' second goal in a 2-0 shutout of Georgetown that gave DePaul the Big East Conference championship.

She has a program-record 11 assists this season.

On the defensive side of the ball, senior Sarah Gorden (Elk Grove) has played a big role all season on the back line, and that group stepped up once again in shutting out the Hoyas.

Gorden was named the Big East Championship's Most Outstanding Defensive Player.

"It's surreal right now," Gorden said to FOX Sports 1 following the match. "We worked so hard since the first day of preseason. I honestly can't even believe it. It's a great feeling.

"At the beginning of the season, our back line was a little rocky. We had some new players in it and we were just trying to get used to each other. Now, toward the end of the season, we're coming together as we should be and playing our best."

DePaul extended its record-breaking unbeaten streak to 20 games.

• Illinois State senior defender Gabbi McArtor (Palatine) has helped the Redbirds to a fourth straight Missouri Valley Conference title, capped off by a 2-1 victory over Evansville.
