Chicago calls for artist submissions for program

Musicians, painters, magicians and other local artists are being asked to submit proposals for a Chicago summer initiative held in the city's parks.

The "Night Out in The Parks" program was started in the summer of 2013. It allows artists to perform or share their craft. There were more than 1,000 cultural events in more than 250 neighborhood parks last summer.

In a news release, Mayor Rahm Emanuel's office says that local film submissions will also be accepted for the second annual Chicago On Screen competition. Selected films will be presented as part of next year's Movies in the Park Series. Submissions will be accepted through Jan. 9.
