Chicago man charged with fleeing from crash

A Chicago man is facing charges of fleeing the scene of an accident that led to the amputation of a woman's hand.

The Chicago Sun-Times reported that a judge on Sunday ordered 21-year-old Arley Romero held on $100,000 bond.

Prosecutors say Romero was speeding on Friday before crashing into the 59-year-old woman's car, causing it to flip.

Witnesses say Romero ran to the women's vehicle after the crash but fled as authorities arrived at the scene.

Authorities say the woman was taken to an area hospital, where her hand was amputated after doctors determined it could not be saved. Her condition was not immediately available.

Police arrested Romero at his home after troopers tracked him using his license plate.

It wasn't immediately clear if Romero has an attorney.
