Schaumburg honored for use of technology

Schaumburg has placed third among municipalities its size in a national ranking of communities with best practices in public sector information and communications technology.

The 2014 Digital Cities Survey, published by the Center for Digital Government, recognizes local governments that use technology to provide financial transparency, city performance measurement dashboards and citizen feedback on city initiatives.

"This award shows the village's commitment to leverage technology so that we can provide professional services to the community in the most cost-effective and efficient manner," Director of Technology Peter Schaak said in a news release. "Our ratings in this survey are improving, and we'll continue to look for ways in which we can keep setting the bar higher every year."

Schaumburg ranked third in cities with a population of 74,999 or less, placing behind only Dublin, Ohio, and Palo Alto, California. Evanston was the only other Illinois city to make the top 10 at any population level.

"Our Information Technology Department is an essential part of everything we do in the village," Mayor Al Larson said. "This is a great accomplishment to recognize a department that is continually making improvements to enhance the way we interact with our citizens."
