Donations bring paper products to area seniors

It's not unusual for a FedEx truck to pull into an industrial park loaded with important packages, but it's not every day those boxes are filled with tissues and toilet paper.

Through the shipping company's FedEx Cares-Deliver Hope campaign, employees on Saturday brought a truck with about 1,000 bags of paper products to donate to the Humanitarian Service Project. The donation will supply eight months' worth of toilet paper, facial tissues and paper towels to the 125 clients in the Carol Stream charity's Senior Citizens Project.

Each month, Humanitarian Service Project volunteers deliver groceries and supplies to the 125 participating DuPage and Kane county seniors, who are living on incomes below the poverty level, Executive Director Kristin Maxwell said.

As the FedEx donation was arriving Saturday, more than 70 Humanitarian Service Project volunteers readied their deliveries of about 100 pounds of groceries for November's senior delivery day.

The Senior Citizens Project is one of five programs run by the Humanitarian Service Project. Others are the Children's Birthday Project, the Christmas Offering, Feed the Kids, and the School Supply Program.
