AKC agility trials all weekend at Libertyville Sports Complex

The Libertyville Sports Complex was barking mad Friday, taken over by the Wisconsin-Illinois Agility Group for their American Kennel Club trials.

About 200 people competed with their dogs in three different levels, novice, excellent and masters.

Contestants ran with their dogs though an obstacle course of jumps, ramps and tunnels in timed competitions on the two soccer fields.

"It's a test for all of us because you have to communicate with your dog," said Trial Chairwoman Mary VanderBloomen of Spring Grove. "Most of us are just doing this to have fun with our dogs."

VanderBloomen says it takes people a couple of years working with a dog to get them ready for competition and to wait for the dog to reach the required minimum age of 16 months old.

The event lasts all day and will go through Sunday at the Libertyville Sports Complex.
