No one injured in Mundelein house fire

A house fire Friday afternoon in Mundelein caused $30,000 in damage, but nobody was injured, officials said.

Firefighters were called to the home on the 200 block of Bingham Circle around 3:30 p.m., according to a news release from the Mundelein Fire Department. The fire was completely out before 4 p.m.

When crews arrived, they found a two-story chimney in the family room on fire, the release said. While firefighters were able to contain the fire to the chimney, there was smoke and water damage throughout the house. Some siding was damaged by heat on a neighboring home.

The fire is under investigation, but the origin was in a fireplace box, said Mundelein fire officials, who believe the fire may have been the result of wear and tear on an old fireplace.

Crews from the Libertyville Fire Department, the Grayslake Fire Protection District, the Wauconda Fire Department, the Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Fire Protection District and Countryside Fire Protection District assisted.
