Lakewood School volunteer earns award for community service

Laura Factly, a volunteer at Lakewood School, was recently presented with the village of Carpentersville's 2014 Community Service Award.

The award, sponsored by the Northern Kane County Chamber of Commerce, recognizes an individual who has gone above and beyond to give back to the community.

Factly, who has volunteered in Community Unit District 300 for eight years reading to students and working in the library, has made a tremendous impact on both students and staff.

"Laura has positively impacted hundreds of children in our community," says Lakewood School teacher Kelly Uehlein. "She is a dedicated volunteer who motivates young students to enjoy reading. Her positive energy and love for reading is contagious to the students around her."

Factly will be honored for her accomplishment during the Northern Kane County Chamber of Commerce's Community Service Award Celebration on Wednesday, Nov. 19, at Randall Oaks Golf Club and Banquets in West Dundee.

"District 300 is overjoyed to learn of Ms. Factly's most deserved recognition," says District 300 administrator Anthony McGinn. "Factly's commitment to literacy and compassion for students is at the very core of our district's mission to ensure all students are college or career ready before graduation. We sincerely thank Ms. Factly for her tremendous contributions to our students, our schools, and our community."
