Wheaton preparing for Reindeer Run 5K

With an eye toward easing holiday stress, Wheaton Lions Club and Wheaton Park District are co-sponsoring the third annual Reindeer Run 5K.

The fun run will step off at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, from near the DuPage Historical Museum, Main and Wesley streets, and wind through downtown.

Registration is $30 through active.com until Tuesday, Dec. 2. Pre-race packet pickup will be from noon to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, at the Wheaton Park District Community Center, 1777 S. Blanchard St.

Race-day registration will be $40, with packet pickup from 7:30 to 8:15 a.m. outside the DuPage County Historical Museum (indoors in inclement weather). Long-sleeve shirts and antlers will be provided for the first 750 registrants.

The course is USATF-certified. Awards will be given to the first overall male and female finisher and the top three finishers in each age division.

Proceeds will benefit the Lions Club and the historical museum. The Lions supports a number of local and national organizations that serve the sight- and hearing-impaired. The museum, operated by Wheaton Park District, preserves the history of DuPage and its residents through free admission, year-round programming, and exhibits such as "Inheriting DuPage," which runs through next September.
