Fire damages Streamwood garage; no injuries reported

Streamwood authorities are investigating how a fire broke out Wednesday in a garage attached to a home on the 600 block of Parkside Circle.

The cost of the damage, largely contained to the garage and a car parked inside, was estimated at $50,000, Streamwood Deputy Fire Chief Marv Kramer said in a news release. Firefighters also pulled part of the ceiling and wall next to the garage to ensure the flames had not spread to the home.

A neighbor called 911 about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, and the first arriving firefighters found the residents safely outside the home.

There were no injuries, Kramer said, but the home was left uninhabitable because crews shut off the gas and power supply.

Firefighters from the Bartlett, Carpentersville, Hanover Park, Hoffman Estates, East Dundee and South Elgin fire departments assisted.
