Cops who shot Waukegan man to death followed protocol, officials say

The Lake County state's attorney office has determined that the police officers involved in the shooting of 27-year-old Christopher M. Anderson followed protocol, authorities said yesterday. Anderson, of Waukegan, was shot and killed by Highland Park police Nov. 3 inside Northshore Highland Park Hospital after officials say he did not put down a handgun. Full story.

Fire Island Lake Sikh mission under control

Firefighters responded to a two-alarm fire last night at the Guru Nanak Sikh Mission of America in Island Lake. The fire department said about midnight that the fire got under control and there were no signs of injuries. Full story with video of the fire as it happened.

5th teen referred to juvenile court in sexting, cyberbullying case

A 14-year-old freshman from Carmel Catholic High School in Mundelein turned himself in to police yesterday in regards to allegations of sexting and cyberbullying of a female Warren Township High School student. The student was referred to the juvenile court system with one count of distribution of child pornography, Gurnee Police Cmdr. David Farrow said yesterday. Full story.

Schaumburg police are investigating a report of tainted dog treats that were discovered in a backyard, police said yesterday. The treats were found in the backyard of a home on the 0-100 block of Stevens Drive, according to a news release. Full story.

Mundelein officials narrowly approve controversial deal to lure Wal-Mart

Hoping to ensure the construction of Mundelein's first Wal-Mart, village officials have approved a tax-sharing deal with the owner of a local shopping center. The pact with Ron Boorstein calls for the village to give his Oak Creek Plaza operation 50 percent of the sales-tax revenue generated by the stores in the shopping center, excluding the proposed Wal-Mart, for 20 years. Sex abuse victims' attorneys want more priest names revealed

Nearly a week after the Archdiocese of Chicago released child sex abuse files pertaining to 36 priests, victims' attorneys are publicly questioning whether the release of the documents shed enough light on the decades-long scandal. Attorneys Jeff Anderson and Marc Pearlman, who have represented hundreds of victims of priest sex abuse in Chicago and across the country, say they should have had input and oversight in the document review process, as they did when the first set of files relating to another 30 priests was released in January. Proposed marijuana dispensary raises concerns in Lombard

A proposed medical marijuana facility is sparking concerns from some Lombard residents who say the site is too close to homes and a private high school. The village board must decide whether to grant a conditional use to MMRE LLC, the company that wants to open the dispensary in office space at 510 E. 22nd St. Trustees recently agreed unanimously to table any further discussion or action until at least Dec. 4. New gated subdivision proposed in Barrington

A national developer is moving forward with plans to build a 43-home gated subdivision on South Grove Avenue in Barrington, east of the former Barn of Barrington and west of the Park Barrington subdivision. David Weekley Homes, a Houston-based homebuilder, had its building plan approved by the Barrington plan commission in October and will go before the village board on Nov. 24. Full story.
