African Guitar Summit to perform Nov. 15 in Batavia

The Fermilab Arts and Lecture Series presents the "African Guitar Summit," a Juno Award-winning gathering of six guitar masters, at 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, in Ramsey Auditorium, off Pine Street in Batavia. Tickets are $28 or $14 for those 18 and younger. For tickets, call (630) 840-2787 or visit www.fnal.gov/culture. Tickets can be purchased online until noon on Friday, or at the box office one hour before the show.

Indulge in the sounds of the finest Canadian guitarists of African origin - 2005 Juno Award winners for World Music Album of the Year -African Guitar Summit. This collective unites the talents of six musicians, each an expert in their individual style and together creating musical magic with African Guitar Summit. This group is making their U.S. debut. Celebrate the mix of musicians who are distinct in cultural backgrounds and languages yet sharing stories and singing each other's praises.

African Guitar Summit features the smooth fire of Juno Award winner Alpha YaYa Diallo from Guinea, and the heartbeat of drummer Kofi Ackah, from Kenya, the Fiesta guitar of Professor Adam Solomon, the bluesy Mighty Popo from Burundi/Rwanda, and from Madagascar the quicksilver guitars and harmonies of Donne Roberts and multiple Juno Award winner Madagascar Slim. Their debut CD, "African Guitar Summit," was honored with a Juno as World Music Album of the Year at the 2005 Juno Awards. Their second album, "African Guitar Summit II," garnered a 2007 Juno award nomination in the same category.

The next show in the Fermilab Art and Lecture Series will be the Reduced Shakespeare Company's "The Ultimate Christmas Show (abridged)" at 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6. Tickets are $30 or $15 for ages 18 and younger.
