Mundelein glassblowing studio to host annual open house

Award winning glass artist James R. Wilbat will open his Mundelein glassblowing studio to the public on five upcoming weekends.

Free glassblowing demonstrations will be featured at the studio, 854 Tower Road, which Wilbat has occupied for 23 years. The open houses will feature continuous glassblowing demonstrations by Wilbat, visiting glassblowers and demonstrators.

Glass designs not available outside the studio, refreshments and a drawing to win a piece of Wilbat's hand blown glass are featured. All ages are welcome.

The open houses take place at the studio in the Cairo Industrial Park, Mundelein, every weekend Nov. 22 to Dec. 21.

Hours are Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The studio also will be open Friday, Nov. 28. For details or directions, visit www.wilbatglass.com or call (847) 940-0015.

This year, Wilbat won numerous awards for his distinctive glass, including the acclaimed Port Clinton Art Festival in Highland Park, Milwaukee Lakefront Festival of Art and Bergstrom-Mahler Art Museum Show.

He is known for his colorful, whimsical glass designs, which reflect his love of abstract art.
