Sen. Kirk presents medals at Buffalo Grove veterans ceremony

The Buffalo Grove Park District honored past and present military heroes on Tuesday at the Community Arts Center, 225 McHenry Road.

A highlight of the event was when U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk presented Laurel D'Angelo of Palatine medals for her father Robert Gettings, a World War II veteran who recently died.

The keynote speaker was Paul Baffico of Lake Bluff, who talked about his years of service with the Army 101st Airborne Division in Vietnam and about healing from the invisible wounds of combat.

The ceremony, at a new location this year, included refreshments from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m., and the program at 1:30 p.m.
