Military personnel who died in combat were given a solemn Veterans Day tribute Tuesday at Cantigny Park in Wheaton.
Roughly 2,000 luminarias glowed across the park's Parade Field and along walkways from sunset to 9 p.m.
The massive luminaria tribute was observed by visitors who walked through the rows of lights or observed the display from their vehicles along a designated driving route.
In addition to the tribute, the First Division Museum sponsored a performance by living-history re-enactors, who read actual letters written by soldiers throughout the years.
Schaumburg-based Trickster Art Gallery and the Native Veterans group of Illinois also presented their Wall of Honor at the museum. Drum and dance performers marked the opening of the traveling exhibit.
