A look ahead to issues facing the Wisconsin Legislature

MADISON, Wis. - The Republican majority is solid in the Legislature and Gov. Scott Walker will likely be empowered by his third statewide victory in four years.

Democrats are deciding whether to change leadership as they figure out the strategy for the coming session and future elections.

Walker and Republican legislative leaders say they want to work on cutting property taxes, expanding enrollment in the private-school voucher program and writing new academic standards.

They are also talking about overhauling the nonpartisan board that oversees elections and enforces campaign finance law, perhaps reverting to the previous partisan model.

Walker and newly elected lawmakers are sworn in Jan. 5, and the governor's budget will be introduced shortly after that.
